U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Program

administered by Changing Homelessness

“This will Remain the Land of the Free,
so long as it is the Home of the Brave!”
~Elmer Davis

What is the Veterans Program?

The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It is a  housing program dedicated to providing case management, supportive services, and temporary financial assistance to Veteran households either experiencing homelessness or those at-risk of it.

Changing Homelessness was awarded the SSVF Program in 2012.  CHI is responsible for program administration and coordination of services in 65 counties throughout Northeast Florida and Central and Southern Georgia.

Through the SSVF Program, we have served more than 6,000 veteran families in our service areas since the start and we are committed to serving many more.

Who is Eligible for SSVF?

Veterans Affairs has established the following criteria for entry into the SSVF Program. A Veteran Household must meet all of the following criteria to be deemed eligible for the SSVF Program, including its services and possible financial assistance:

  • Veteran Status – A Veteran is a person who served at least one day of active duty service in the military, naval, or air service, and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.
  • Housing Status – The Veteran Household must demonstrate it is literally homeless or at-risk of homelessness.

  • Income Status – For the county the Veteran Household is seeking services in, it must have an annual income at or below the 80% Area Median Income.
